Fresh as a Daisy
Over the years, we have managed to amass a large collection of professional film equipment. We started this in college, buying a few stands from Craigslist here and there and some lights on eBay.
As we’ve continued to grow, we moved on to buying directly from business and studios in mass. So, as a result, we collected a huge amount of equipment. So much so that we wouldn’t use 90% of it on most of our projects.
With this new beginning to Cinema Summit, we have decided to start fresh. We are selling of MOST of our equipment and only keeping the few things that we use frequently.
That means, for the most part, we are starting over from scratch, just like someone coming into this industry might.
For those of you following along, that means you’ll get to see our decision-making process for why we decide to buy equipment and what we decide to just rent. If you want to keep track of all of that, you can visit the REPORTS section in the top menu. There we will be arranging all of our purchases, rentals, and earnings for each of our new projects.
So What's First on the Docket?
We want to ease into this whole process, not only for us, but for those of you who are watching and following along. So, we have decided to start with a short film.
It just so happens that we are in the season of the My Rode Reel competition, so we have decided to participate in that.
We like competitions because it adds structure to an otherwise structure-less existence of freelance/independent filmmaking.
In this case, we will have a couple months to complete a 3-minute short film of any genre.
That’s perfect. Just enough rules to keep us in line while still giving us the creative freedom to explore and potentially do a short around some concepts or ideas that we are interested in.
In our first live-stream, we will be showing you in real-time our process for coming up with ideas for a project of this nature and by the end, have a logline, basic story outline, and solid game plan for this short film.
Can’t make it to the live-stream? Don’t worry, as a member of our Patreon you can access it on-demand.
